Previous Playoff Appearances
2005
(lose 4-3 to Sylmar) - The first time in the playoffs from the Ozzie League would not
provide any better luck for the franchise as the CyberSox would lose
in seven games.
Even though they finished with
identical 91-59 records, the Sylmar Padawans were awarded the
Griffin Division title due to having a better head-to-head season
record (10-6). That race was decided on the last game of the season.
After dropping the opening two
games to Sylmar, the 'Sox rallied to take the next three at home.
However, the 'Sox were blown out of of Game 6, setting up a
eerily-appropriate Game 7 between the two evenly matched team.
The 'Sox rallied back from a
3-0 deficit to tie it, but the Padawans managed to push a run across
in the 8th to advance.
2002
(lose 4-3 to New York)
- The final season in Phoenix saw the Predators stock up for one
last run at a title. The Predators were set up for one thing and one
thing only, to win in 2002. They did just that as they went 36-16 in
the final two months to secure the Eck League Wild Card with a 99-61
record, setting up a match up against the New York Knights (now the
Nashville Funkadelic) winners of the Person Division at 100-60.
Phoenix took the opener on the
road as they shutout New York, 2-0, behind seven strong innings from
Freddy Garcia. New York went on to win the next two games, including
Game 3 in Phoenix to re-take home-field advantage.
Phoenix blew away the Knights
in Game 4, 20-2, but dropped Game 5, which gave New York two shots
at home to take the series. The Knights did just that, but needed
Game 7 to do it.
2000
(lose 3-1 to Chicago) - The Predators finished the season at 86-74, but had to play Game
#161 to get in the playoffs, beating the Cleveland Rocks in that
one-game playoff. Their reward? A 5-game series with the cream of
the Eck League, the Chicago Black Sox, winners of the Hrbek Division
and a league-best 106-54 record.
The Black Sox blew out Phoenix
taking the first two games in Chicago by a combined score of 17-6.
Phoenix wins Game 3, 4-2, to provide some hope, but Chicago quickly
closes it out with a 8-4 victory in Game 4. |
